too much of a good thing

ONce we got the tree home and started trying to figure out how to get it in and standing, we realized we had a small problem...

We have cut about 7 feet off the tree, and it still is taller thank I expected. You just wouldn't believe how much smaller they look in the forrest than in your living room. (by the way, we now know our ceilings are no where near 30 foot tall.)

Our tree

well, it still seemed like the perfect tree, even though it was nearly impossible for doug and i to load it on the trailer

thanksgiving-looking for our tree

isabella and doug took one four wheeler while jackie and i took the other through the forrest looking for the perfect tree. You can get a permit for $8 and take a treee up to 20 feet, so I wanted a 20 footer, thinking our ceilings were 30 foot.

We found what seemed to be the perfect tree. It seemed like fate when beautiful snowflakes began falling just as we got ready to rid the woodland creatures of their home...

HALLOWEEN

We didn't exactly plan ahead for halloween this year. Izzy is supposed to be ragity anne. Everythime I tried to make a freckle she turned really quickly and so she had wiskers instead of freckles...still looked cute though. She finally got the hang of trick or treating. Doug took her up to one of the last houses and the lady asked if she needed candy...Doug told her just to say "trick or treat" and that was probably all she wanted. Isabella threw a little fit when the lady didn't put any candy in her pumkin! tee hee.

Izzy and the parade of sheep

Izzy was not the least bit afraid and liked the sheep a little more than we expected...The sheep were sprinting down main st. and izzy was within 4' of 'em and having a blast.

Traffic jam

The first part of October, the rancers bring their sheep down from the mountains and they use the main highway to get all 2000 sheep to their rances in the meadows. That is to say 2000 sheep at a time. I don't know how many sheep total over a period of a few days...I think there are two rancers --the one here is a member of our church-- and they each do seveal trips. One of the last 2000 is used in an annual parade through the middle of town where my daughter almost lost her life via sheep trampling...photos to come.

I was driving to town and luckily-for me- got stuck in the middle of all these little sheepies. I was even more excited when I realized I knew the rancer...he yelled,"Hello, Judy! You found a house yet?" Then about the sheep,"keep crowd'n 'em Judy!" It was really cool...I was excited to get to see them. The 40" drive to town took a little longer. The sheep move at 2mph...all 2000 of 'em.

The town herd

how many bucks can you find in the lawn of this historic home in the middle of town?

You wouldn't believe how close these guys will let you get! I (judy)was with in 20 feet of the biggest buck doug's ever seen with a drop tine that was about 4-5" long. I was so proud of myself-so was doug- until I saw a man with his dog picking veggies from his garden less than 10 feet from the same monster!!!

izzy loves the 4 wheeler!!!!

We had so much fun driving around on the Mount. Her favorite part wasn't the vast meadow on the top, or the spooky burned forrests, or the dramatic cliffs, not even her first experience with snow, or the cool old cabin ruins way on top, where an old mineing town used to be-suposibly, no, she only got excited when we saw COWS! (and driving)

welcome to colorado

Here is izzy across the river from the cabin we lived in for 6 weeks while we looked for a house...
We could get on the four wheeler and take off from there and drive all the way up to the snow. I'll include pics of Izzy on the 4 wheeler, etc.
